Nova Scotia Valley Pump Expo Report |
September 30, 2003
The Expo was a great success there were 14 companies that participated, they are
as follows: The CDA, JDRF, Diabeters , Kennebecasis Drugs, BD, Auto Control
Medical(Animas), Lifescan, Roche Diagnostics, Medtronic MiniMed, Bayer
Healthcare, Novo Nordisk Canada, Braemed Ltd.(Cozmo), Therasense, and
Disetronic.
The Expo took place on the last day of a three day Pharmaceutical Association of
Nova Scotia annual meeting and workshops. The pharmacists were given 1.0 CEU
(educational points) for attending the Expo, because of this we had a large
showing of Pharmacists. There were 57 pharmacists that filled out our database
forms expressing their interest in our organization and wishing to be kept up to
date with IPC information. Some have offered to be volunteers.
There were approximately 150 people that attended throughout the day. The
atmosphere was electric; people were very interested in finding out all they
could. At one point there was even a small informal information /support group
being conducted by one of the IPC members with soon to be pumpers asking a lot
of questions and sharing experiences with one another.
The Exhibitors were very pleased by the turnout and expressed their eagerness to
participate in the future. Several commented that we were filling a definite
need and we should continue to do so. They also commented on our professionalism
and the enthusiasm shown by our members.
A local newspaper showed up to do an article about insulin pumps and took some
pictures of some kids with their pumps as well as a picture of Barb holding
blowup Bob! He asked the girls a lot of questions about using an insulin pump
and how it affected their lives. As usual the girls were very well spoken and
gave him a lot of good information. He then met with Barb to find out about IPC.
It was suggested that we might consider having a speaker to give an overview of
pumping with a question and answer session afterwards. Some pharmacists said
they would have liked to have had more information from our members about
pumping and pump supplies they used as well as information from the exhibitors,
expressing that they didn't have enough time to get all the information they
would have liked to get. This was largely due to the fact that they had another
workshop to go to.
Overall everyone seemed pleased with the Expo, there was plenty of space and
nobody was cramped or overcrowded. The tables were well spaced out and easy to
get to. Most seemed pleased with the time of the Expo. There were plenty of food
and beverages for our volunteers and exhibitors. A good time was had by all, and
we were left with a great feeling of success knowing we had once again connected
and spread the word about pumping. Thank you letters have been sent.
Expo had 14 companies participating - you can get names from N.S. website under expo page.
Additional companies have already asked us to let us know when the
next one is being held. * It was held during an annual pharmacists workshop
in Nova Scotia and was rated a 1.0 CEU for pharmacists who attended. The
highest rating for a workshop was 2.0.
